Truth in a World of Options
Devotional Thought:
Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
-John 14:6
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
-Acts 4:12
In today’s culture, the exclusivity of Jesus’ claim as “the way, the truth, and the life” can be deemed controversial by society. While society prizes inclusivity, defining all beliefs as equally valid, Jesus offers an inclusive exclusivity—salvation is freely available to all, regardless of background, but it is through Him alone. This profound truth challenges us to lovingly and boldly proclaim the gospel in a world longing for meaning, healing, and truth.
Reflection Questions:
1. How do you respond to Jesus’ claim in John 14:6 that He is the only way to God? Why do you think this is challenging for some people to accept?
2. The sermon outlines the problem of modern inclusivity, where all ideas are treated as equally valid. How does this perspective affect conversations about faith in your community or workplace?
3. “All religions are superficially similar but fundamentally different.” How does this statement strengthen your understanding of Christianity’s uniqueness?
4. Reflect on the imagery of Jesus as the ultimate "scapegoat" (referencing the Day of Atonement). How does this deepen your appreciation of His sacrifice?
5. How can the church today lovingly articulate the exclusivity of Christ in a pluralistic world without compromising on truth?
6. The sermon mentions that Jesus’ sacrifice fulfills God’s holiness and love. How do these attributes of God resonate with your personal discipleship journey?
7. The claim of Jesus being the only way can sometimes be labeled as arrogant. How can Christians balance humility with conviction when engaging in interfaith dialogue?
8. How does the global growth of Christianity, as mentioned in the sermon, encourage you about the power and truth of the gospel message?
