Devotional Thought
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world… And everyone went to their own town to register.
-Luke 2:1, 3
The Christmas story is not merely a narrative about a baby born in a manger but a proclamation of the ultimate King—Jesus Christ. Luke juxtaposes the grandeur of Caesar Augustus, ruler of the known world, with the humble arrival of the Messiah in Bethlehem. Caesar Augustus, with all his power and authority, was unknowingly a tool in God’s sovereign plan to fulfill ancient prophecies.
Unlike Caesar, who demanded obedience and tribute through taxation, Jesus offered Himself as a gift for humanity’s salvation. He is the King of kings, whose reign transcends earthly power, offering peace and restoration to all who receive Him.
As we navigate a world of competing authorities and ideologies, we are reminded that the true King reigns above all. Jesus' humility, sacrifice, and ultimate victory call us to align our lives under His lordship. This Christmas, let us reflect on the majesty of the King who was born to save and reign forever.
