Guaranteed Joy

And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’

-Acts 20:35b (NKJV)

1. God will give you opportunities to give.

In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people.

-2 Corinthians 8:2-4

…but they first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God.

-2 Corinthians 8:5b

2. God will see to it that you reap what you sow.

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

-2 Corinthians 9:6

But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you—see that you also excel in this grace of giving.

-2 Corinthians 8:7

3. God loves a cheerful giver.

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

-2 Corinthians 9:7

The Bible speaks of 3 kinds of Giving:

Tithing

Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ In tithes and offerings.

-Malachi 3:8

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

-Malachi 3:10

Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth of your mint, rue and all other kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone.

-Luke 11:42

The “former” refers to the Tithe.

Tithing is a demonstration of our dependence on the Divine.

Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of your Crops.

-Proverbs 3:9

Freewill Giving

Sacrificial Giving

Sacrifice is giving up something you love, for something that you love more.

Here’s how Webster defines a GIFT:

A GIFT is something voluntarily transferred or given with no expectation of compensation in return.

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.

-2 Corinthians 8:9 (NKJV)
